A.: A.R.T. represents a new way to create, collect and think about contemporary art.

Q.: Why was A.R.T. launched?

A.: To make high quality, original art more accessible to more people.

Q.: How will you achieve your goal?

A.: We don’t believe art needs to be scarce to have value. So all our pieces are issued in open editions.

Q.: Besides open editions and a commitment to quality, are there other unifying characteristics to works of A.R.T.?

A.: Every piece utilizes state of the art digital technology in its design and production, such as tele-fabrication, where digital files are transmitted over the air to robotically controlled machinery in remote studios. It’s a reflection of our commitment to modernity and a pragmatic means of producing art at the scale we envision.

Q.: What sort of artists will be contributing to A.R.T.?

A.: We’re looking to dissolve the traditional boundaries among disciplines by drawing talented people from the entire creative spectrum — fine artists from diverse media as well as architects, interior and industrial designers, and other creatives.

Q.: How does A.R.T. differ from other venues that deal in contemporary art?

A.: Among other things, our approach to pricing differs from traditional galleries and auction houses. Our prices are tied to the cost of producing the work and remain fairly stable over time, which means we follow a retail business model. Our colleagues in the sister venues operate along the lines of an open market where prices are largely determined by what collectors are willing to pay. We think both approaches are viable.

A.: You are, if you’re one or more of the following: design-savvy; looking to surround yourself with compelling art; a design professional at work on a stimulating project; sensitive and thoughtful; young, old or middle-aged; rich or not-so-rich; creative or appreciative of creativity; an art critic; or simply happy to be alive.
